Andrew Blanch: Spanish Romance
Andrew Blanch: Spanish Romance
Featuring María Eugenia Nieva
(mezzo-soprano)

“Andrew Blanch is that truly rare musician, who combines profound musical intelligence, curiosity and passion with a technique that allows anything. A complete artist.“
– Howard Penny, Chamber Orchestra of Europe
Andrew Blanch (Guitar)
Guest Artist: María Eugenia Nieva (Voice)
Praised as a “rockstar of nylon-acoustic music” (On Sounds), “the real deal” (Classics Today), “dazzling” (ArtsHub) and “brilliant” (Limelight Magazine), Andrew Blanch is regarded as one of Australia’s leading musicians. He is a prizewinner in more than ten international guitar competitions, a finalist for Performance of the Year at the 2022 Australian Art Music Awards, and has released three studio albums to critical acclaim. His career to date has taken him around the world from Berlin to London, São Paulo to Auckland, Valencia and Rome, and this November and December you will have the chance to hear him on his inaugural tour of the Southern States after a series of sell-out concerts on the West Coast.
Spanish Romance is a lovingly crafted journey tracing the Spanish guitar from its origins in the European Baroque with a concerto by Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, to masterpieces by 19th century Spanish composers Isaac Albéniz and Francisco Tárrega before finishing with a selection of South American works from Venezuela to Brazil.
The show concludes in Argentina, where Andrew is joined on stage by his partner, Argentinian mezzo-soprano María Eugenia Nieva for authentic Argentinian música folklórica. Performing these songs since the age of six, María Eugenia’s rich and exceptionally beautiful voice transports you directly to her hometown of Mendoza, filling you with joy, romance, nostalgia and everything in between.
Don’t miss out on this enchanting evening; where you will be dazzled by the best of the Spanish guitar, moved by heart-warming melodies and stories, touched with the warmth of the Spanish and Latin American music and culture.
